What Size Flag Case Do I Need for a Burial Flag?
The most common question we get is simple: will this case fit my flag? Here is how to know for sure.
The standard burial flag is 5′ × 9.5′
The flag presented to the family at a veteran's funeral is almost always the 5 foot by 9.5 foot casket flag. Folded into the traditional triangle, it needs a case made for that size. A case built for a 3′ × 5′ flag will be too small.
Other flag sizes
- 3′ × 5′ flags (the common house flag) fold into a much smaller triangle and need a 3′ × 5′ case.
- Flags flown over the Capitol or a base are often 3′ × 5′. Check the certificate that came with it.
If you are not sure, measure the flag unfolded, or send us a photo and we will tell you.
What to look for in a flag case
- Solid wood, not MDF with a printed finish. It lasts for generations.
- Real glass front, which stays clear and does not scratch like acrylic.
- Wall mount or tabletop, so you can choose where it goes.
- Engraving with the name, rank and service dates, so the case tells their story.
